About Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving in the United States traces back to harvest feasts held by the Plymouth colonists and the Wampanoag people in 1621. Days of thanksgiving were proclaimed locally for centuries, and President Lincoln made it a national holiday in 1863.
In 1941 Congress fixed the date at the fourth Thursday of November, which is why it can fall anywhere from the 22nd to the 28th.
In 2028 it falls on a Thursday. This countdown runs to the first moment of November 23 in the time zone you choose, so the figure matches the calendar day on your wall.
